Recycling in Westminster - an overview
Recycling collections from home
Westminster offer a variety of recycling collection schemes depending on where you live.
Doorstep recycling
They provide residents with a blue recycling bag or black basket. Recycling is collected weekly and you can recycle paper, cardboard, cans, glass bottles/jars and plastic bottles.
Recycling on estates
All estates now have a mixed recycling bin, making it easier for you to recycle your paper, cardboard, cans, glass bottles/jars and plastic bottles. Please contact your estate office for more information.
Recycling in mansion blocks
All mansion blocks now have a collection of mixed paper and card, mixed glass, plastic bottles, food tins and drink cans either using blue bags or communal bins.

Kitchen food waste collections
Westminster do not currently offer a kitchen waste collection service to its residents. Please contact them directly for further information on when this service might become available.
Green garden waste collections
Westminster offer a free green garden waste recycling scheme for all residents. They provide reusable bags and collect throughout the year on an alternate weekly basis.
You can put the following into your sack:
prunings, twigs (under 30mm thick) and leaves
old flowers and houseplants
weeds
grass cuttings
thin logs and branches (under 30mm thick)
Please DO NOT put these items in your green waste sacks
thick logs and branches (over 30mm thick)
soil and turf
any food waste
any other rubbish
To ensure that your green waste is collected, make sure your bags are on the edge of your property by 8am on your collection day.

Local street recycling banks
Westminster has 170 street recycling sites across the borough for you to recycle paper, card, plastic bottles, glass, cans and tins. They also have 24 sites for recycling textiles and clothes, 13 sites for the recycling of Tetrapak cartons and 5 sites for recycling small electrical waste. Residents can also recycle small batteries at all libraries and one stop shops. Special collections
If you have a piece of furniture, a fridge, cooker or similar item which is still in good condition check out the Reuse page to see if someone else can give it a home. Alternatively the Council can collect it for you. Westminster can provide a collection for up to 10 items for £20. For more information:

Reuse and Recycling Centres
There are no Reuse and Recycling Centres (RRC) in Westminster. Residents can use Western Riverside Waste Authority's RRC's located in Wandsworth. Please see Wandsworth’s recycling page for further information.
